Choosing tiles for someone else has taught us a lot about how to explain how to choose tiles for your bathroom. We’ve come up with 4 tips to choose the right tile that we hope will help you if you ever want to get to grips with your bathroom.Bathroom Tiles Cape Town
SO HERE ARE OUR 4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING BATHROOM TILE…
1. PICK YOUR MUST HAVE TILE FIRST.
Usually, before we begin the renovation of the bathroom, we have a tile that we dream of including in our layout. Sometimes it’s a special or unique accent tile, and sometimes it’s as plain as realizing you want a white subway tile. Either way, take the dream tile and use it as the starting point for the other tile you’re going to choose for your bathroom layout.
2. TRY TO KEEP IT TO NO MORE THAN 3 DIFFERENT TILES.
Using your first (must have) option as a starting point, use it to make decisions about the other tiles that you will include in your layout. If your must-have is a truly unique colour or pattern and is going to be the focal point of your project, take more subtle colours out of it to use in your accent tiles.
But, if your first choice is really flat (like a white subway tile) you might want to add an element of interest with a colourful accent tile or even a smaller white pencil tile to change it and add interest.
Usually, you will choose a floor tile, a wall tile for a shower/tub surround, or even all the walls in your bathroom, and an accent tile that will be used as a focal point.
3. TAKE MAINTENANCE INTO CONSIDERATION.
When choosing tiles for these wet areas, you’ll probably want to go with porcelain or ceramic tiles because they’re virtually maintenance-free. (You’ll want to double-check to see if they need to be sealed.) Natural stone tiles need more maintenance and need to be sealed.
They’re certainly more pours, and they tend to hold on to dust and soil. If you want to incorporate stone texture, it might be a good idea to use it on the ground or in a less wet area. Finally, the glass tile is so exquisite that it makes a large wall or accent tile. It’s super sticky, so it’s not running well on the concrete.
4. STICK TO ONE SHOW STOPPER.
There are so many lovely tiles out there, and the bathroom is the perfect place to show off some of your personality and take a risk with a fun colour or pattern on your tiles. However, if you’re going to do that, just keep it to one stopper show.
This will make your look timeless and actually create the wow factor that you’re looking for because it’s not going to compete with the other elements in the room. (Many of these super special tiles may be expensive, but if you’re working in a small area like a bathroom, they might just be the splurge you want because you don’t need a lot of square feet.)
Your show stopper area can be big or small, it’s up to you. The good majority of this bathroom is done in pretty basic white tile, but they added a wow factor with this beautiful tile at the top.
