We have come up with 5 tips for choosing the perfect tile that we hope will help you if you ever decide to tackle your bathroom.
1. PICK YOUR MUST HAVE TILE FIRST.
Typically we all have that one tile we think of including in our layout when we begin a bathroom refurbishment. Sometimes it’s a tile that’s really special or unique, and sometimes it’s as easy as knowing that you want white tiles.
Either way, take that dream tile and use it as the starting point for the other tile you will choose for your bathroom design.
2. TRY TO KEEP IT TO NO MORE THAN 3 DIFFERENT TILES.
Taking your first option (must have) as a starting point, use it to decide on the other tiles that you will include in your layout. If your must have is a really distinctive color or pattern and the focus of your model will be on it, take more subtle colors to use in your accent sheets.
However, if your first option is really simple (like a white tile on the subway) you might want to add a colorful accent tile or even a narrower white penny tile to alter it and add value.
3. STICK TO ONE SHOW STOPPER.
There are so many lovely tiles out there and a bathroom is an ideal location to demonstrate some of your personality and a pleasant color or design. However, if you are going to go for it, keep it to one show stopper. This will make your look timeless and really create the wow factor that you are going for since it won’t be competing with the other elements in the room.
4. TAKE MAINTENANCE INTO CONSIDERATION.
Tiles made of natural stone involve additional maintenance and must be closed. They are definitely more pours, so they tend to stick to more dust and bleak. If you want to add stone texture, use it on the ground or in a less moist region.
Last but not least, glass tile is so beautiful that it creates an excellent wall or tile accent but they don’t work well on the floor as they are super slippery.
5. CONSIDER SCALE.
When it gets to bathroom floors right now, large-scale tiles are certainly on the trend. If you choose to go that direction, you can use the same tile cut in smaller sizes in a different area of the bathroom. For instance, if you use 12 x 24 tiles on the floor, you can use the same tile in 2 x 2s on the bathroom floor to continue the color throughout the floor, but create a more slip-free shower floor.
